How to keep deer burgers together while grilling

Deer burgers are delicious! However, keeping the patties together while cooking on the grill can be difficult! Here are a few tricks to keep your burgers together and still taste delicious.

Ingredients

  • One pound of ground deer meat
  • Three full table spoons of butter
  • One fresh egg
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper

Prep

Allow the ground deer meat to completely thaw until it reaches room temp. Also, allow butter temp to reach room temp.

Once the following ingredients have reached room temp, place both into a large bowl. Crack open the fresh egg and dump into bowl. Be careful to not allow any egg shell to fall in bowl with other ingredients. Place three table spoons of Worcestershire sauce into bowl. Personally, I like to use three table spoons of salt and pepper as well with the other ingredients however, you can completely skip this step if you desire.

Begin stirring ingredients together. Continue stirring ingredients until are completely blended together.

Cooking

Allow grill to reach grilling temp. I love to grill deer burgers on a fire around the 400 degree range. However, you should be the judge of your own grill and what temp you prefer grill burgers.

Also, before placing burgers on the grill, coat the grilling surface with cooking oil. This will reduce meat sticking to the hot surface of the grill.

Once the grill reaches your desirable cooking temp, place burgers on the grill. Allow the burgers to sear for 6 minutes. The first flip is the most difficult accomplish without breaking the patties into pieces. Gently slid your spatula under the burgers. Take your time and be gentle. Once the patties are flipped, allow another 6 minutes for the patties to sear.

Continue cooking until burgers reach a safe state to consume. Keep in mind by using the egg for a bonding agent, you have to make sure the egg ingredients are completely cooked. By allowing the burgers to sear, the flavor and moisture will remain locked in after being cooked for an extended amount of time.

Remove the deer burgers from the grill and enjoy.
