Ingredients

  • Tenderize slices of deer steaks
  • 1 cup of buttermilk
  • 1 cup of Italian dressing
  • Flower
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 fresh egg
  • Vegetable frying oil

Prep

Take tenderized deer steaks place in container. Place the entire cup of Italian dressing into the container with the deer meat. Cover container and place into fridge. Allow the meat to marinate over night with the Italian dressing.

On the day you are ready to cook prepare your cooking station. Take buttermilk and mix with raw egg in small bowl. Remove deer meat from the container with Italian dressing. Also, prepare your skillet or fryer with cooking oil. If you are cooking with a skillet, be careful to not over fill with cooking oil. Personally, I like to put an amount of oil in my skillet to where it completely covers the bottom about a centimeter deep. You be the judge and use caution when doing so. If you have a deep fryer you should fill to the fill line recommend by the manufacturer.

Pour flour into a container that can be used to coat the deer meat. The Cajun batter basket is one of my favorite tools for frying just about anything. If you want to eliminate frustration and making a mess when you bread meat before you fry, I highly suggest you get the Cajun batter pro.

Slowly bring the temp of your cooking oil up to 350 degrees.

Cooking

Take your fresh deer steaks and dip them into the buttermilk. Next place the meat into the flour and coat each piece with flour.

Flour coating deer steaks

Place the steaks into the cooking oil and begin the frying process. Typically, I like to cook each side three to four minutes depending on the size of the steak. When frying deer meat always monitor the oil temperature. Cooking oil can reach a flash point quickly if you loose focus when frying. Allow the steaks to turn a beautiful golden brown and remove from oil.

As you cook, you may want to add salt and pepper while the meat is frying. This is entirely up to you and what your preferences are. I like to add salt and pepper to the flour before frying. Be careful if you choose to do this because you can ruin the flavor by adding too much salt in the flour.

There is nothing like a fresh piece of delicious fried deer meat served with your favorite sides. I hope this post give you guys an idea of how to fry deer steak. It’s simple and delicious.
